Experiment 1A

Enjoyed with: Supertramp - The Logical Song

Time to explore and experiment with....

A new way of speaking!

It would be great to consider alternate ways of depicting speech. Uh, wouldn't it?
Currently we have quotation marks " " and in some languages they make use of the chevron < >. Wouldn't it be interesting if there was another way of signifying the speech or thoughts from a character?

For this experiment I would like to explore the use of various other punctuation marks in creating speech. This will be done in an attempt to make reading more "exciting", if you will.

Below are a few examples of what I've come up with. Using only the characters from the keyboard: It is in effect a way to mirror the use of speech and thought bubbles as seen in various comics.

And so...

Example 1A (speech)

Chara < Hey there, do you like the shape of my words? )

Example 1B (thoughts)

Chara o O (I wonder what he's thinking about? )

Example 2A

Chara
         ^
(Man, I'm really tired of being so awake.)

Example 2.1A

Chara
        /\
(I've never really been much for conversation.)

Example 2B

Chara
         o
          O
(I wonder if they know what I'm thinking?)

Example 3A

(This is what I do for fun.)
     \/
Chara

Example 3.1A

(I ate the last cupcake, what are you going to do about it?)
  \  /
   \/
Chara

Example 3B

(I wish I could share my ideas...)
    O
   o
Chara

Example 4A

(I hope something funny happens.)
      V
Chara

Example 4.1A

(Where is everybody?)
       v
Chara

--------------------------------------------------

If you have any feedback, please let me know. Once I've decided on a suitable example, I plan on putting it into practice with a short of sorts... Mmm... What do I mean? What could I mean? What should I mean?!

Perhaps something to punctuate this experiment
